ORLAND — The Orland City Council addressed some public nuisance issues this week during its meeting Monday.

Councilors assigned the director of public works to look into the dumping of garbage at an area designated for dropping green waste.

The free service at County Roads N and 21 has been working well, with someone collecting the material to be ground up and used.

But recently there has also been garbage mixed in, explained Orland City Manager Paul Poczobut.

Its unclear what is best to do to stop the illegal garbage dumping, and the hope is that the free service won”t need to be eliminated, Poczobut said.

The council also voted to prohibit parking of commercial trucks along an area of Pabst Avenue, after neighbors reported safety concerns between Mello Way and Yolo Street.

In that area Pabst narrows, and 18-wheeler trucks were blocking the view of traffic, Poczobut explained.

Orland Police Chief Paula Carr talked to the truck owners and worked out a way for them to park the trucks elsewhere.

No parking signs will soon be posted.
