CHICO — ”4 Bitchin” Babes” are coming to the Laxson Auditorium for a night of fun on Wednesday, courtesy of Chico Performances.

“It”s a traveling pajama party on stage, ” said Sally Fingeretti, one of the gifted musicians. “We sing songs which relate to contemporary life in this generation. We”re a very easy show. We think of our show as ”Girls” Night Out” where they can kick back and relax.”

When asked about the title of their group, Fingeretti explained, “The name evolved through the years from a song popular in the 1990, ”Life According to Four Bitchin” Babes.” We don”t just play music. We tell stories. Bitchin” means currently hip, ageless and timeless.”

“4 Bitchin” Babes” is a two-hour musical revue with no dance routines. They are four women, in their 40s and 50s, who come from different backgrounds and live in different cities. Their commonality is that they are women. They are performing songwriters, artists, comedians and actors. They compose their own material, song four-part harmony while playing piano, guitars and one rockin” bass. Spark that up with a wardrobe of “bling” and audiences get an energy-filled show.

As a pianist, guitarist and composer, Fingeretti is one of the founders of this show, which is also called “Diva Nation.” Debi Smith plays guitar, piano and Irish bodhran (drum). Nancy Moran is an award-winning vocalist and songwriter. Deirdre Flint, the only single one in the group, is another celebrated songwriter and singer.

“Men like the show,” Fingeretti said. “If men want to know what women are talking about at ladies” lunch, here”s their chance. If a man goes to the show with a woman it is a painless way to get a lot of points, plus he”ll have a good time.

“We don”t do anything political. People come to the show to be entertained, motivated and inspired. We do improv and it”s very uptempo.”

Fingeretti grew serious as she explained, “Women have learned to treat themselves as important. The fine line is learning how to take care of oneself without becoming self-centered, and yet, be there to help others. An entire generation of women were raised to be dedicated wives and mothers. Yet, with us working and struggling to make everyone happy, we lost a little bit of ourselves. We”re trying to reclaim that.”
