Local College and High School Sports Roundup: Chico State women rout Sonoma State


The Chico State women”s basketball team routed host Sonoma State 64-44 Thursday night, beginning a four-game road trip with a victory in Rohnert Park.

Taylor Lydon scored 15 points and Katie Girten had 13 points for the Wildcats (14-5, 11-4 California Collegiate Athletic Association). Courtney Hamilton had eight assists.


Champion Christian 65, Redding Adventist 47

The Mustangs, led by Mike Roberts” 18 points, Darrell Zebley”s 13 points and Zach Gawthrop”s 11, won at home. Champion Christian (8-11, 6-2 Pioneer Valley League) outscored Redding 25-3 in the first quarter.

Paradise Adventist 67, Elk Creek 21

Jason Logan led the Cougars (19-3, 8-0 in the Pioneer Valley League) with 15 points, and Jordy Brunner added eight as Paradise Adventist remained undefeated in the PVL.

Orland 65, Sutter 42

Javone Bradford led the Trojans (16-7, 4-1 Butte View League) with 12 points and Jud Sailsbery had 11 as Orland cruised to a smooth win at home.


Pleasant Valley 57, Foothill 16

Kelsey Miller scored a team-high 14 points and Kiley Mansfield had 12 as Pleasant Valley (17-1, 8-0 Eastern Athletic League) trounced Foothill at Varley Gym.

In a tremendous defensive effort, the Vikings picked up 20 steals and held the Cougars to single-digit scoring in all four quarters.

Champion Christian 40, Redding Adventist 20

The Mustangs (7-10, 5-3 Pioneer Valley League) outpaced Redding Adventist behind Erin Koslofsky, who scored a team-high 16 points and pulled down 8 rebounds.

Elk Creek 29, Paradise Adventist 24

Paradise Adventist”s Sarah Trenholme scored 10 points but it wouldn”t be enough as the Cougars ( 5-17, 1-7 in the Pioneer Valley League) fell at home.


Butte 11, Los Medanos (5)

The Roadrunners opened their season with a rout at home as Kyley Dau drove in four runs and was 2-for-3 with a double. Alicia Lorenz was 2-for-2 with an RBI, and she didn”t allow a hit or an earned run in the five-inning game that was shortened due to the margin. Kelsie Robinson was 2-for-2 with a double and drove in two runs.


Las Plumas 1, Wheatland 1

The visiting Thunderbirds tied the Pirates as Ruben Carrillo scored a goal with an assist from Pedro Flores about 20 minutes into the game. Goalie Noah Smith made four saves for Las Plumas (3-7-3, 2-6-2 Butte View League).

Winters 2, Oroville 1

Colin Laviolette punched in the Tigers” lone goal, but Oroville (6-6-3, 4-5-2 Butte View League) gave up a score in last two minutes of game and lost at home.

Orland 5, Esparto 1

Orland”s Salvador Gonzalez had a hat trick while teammates Fabian Reynozo and Nick Ruiz scored goals as the Trojans (12-1-3) routed the Spartans at home.


Oroville 4, Winters 3

Kristin Vang played in a part in all four goals for the host Tigers as she scored twice and assisted on the two others.

Vang scored unassisted once, and Pa Yoa Xiong assisted on Vang”s other goal. Vang assisted on Rosie Reyes” goal on a corner kick. Shortie Thao scored off another Vang assist as Oroville (10-4-1, 7-3-1 Butte View League) led 4-1.

Tigers coach Steve Wolf said fullback Danielle Cottrell played excellent defense, helping Oroville shut down Winters” late rally. Wolf said Oroville can do no worse than tie for second place in the BVL.
