CHICO — A fundraiser to help with a new documentary being produced by a Chico team is under way.

An array of gifts has been assembled by Interstellar Studios in hopes of raising money for “Drops of Hope: Water, Wells and Aid.”

The film is a look at American volunteerism and aid in Africa, focusing on efforts by Ron Reed and the Chico Rotary Club.

The water effort included the establishment of community water districts, and microlending programs to create small businesses around water filtration.

Production is expected to start in March, with filming slated for Washington D.C., Tanzania and London. Support has been secured from the Southern Oregon Public Television, a PBS affiliate.

Producers Kris Koenig and Anita Ingrao are both Emmy-winners from past work, including their last film “400 Years of the Telescope,” and their volunteer work at the Bidwell Park observatory.

Fundraising is being conducted through the website and click on “Help Us.”

The producers need about $7,000, according to the website. Koenig can be reached at 343-5635 or e-mail kris@inter
