Patricia Sue Lewis was born on May 6, 1938, at St. Joseph Hospital in Eureka, California to Veldon (Bill) and Elaine (Robinson) Nixon of Garberville. She passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010, at Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford, Ore. She was 72 years old.

On Dec. 21, 1955, she married Kenneth Lewis in Reno, Nev. From 1968 to 1989 they owned and operated Lewis’s Quality Foods and later The Frosty Spot in Garberville. During that time, they opened the second Lewis’s Quality Foods in Redway. Patti and Kenny have owned and managed many rentals and other commercial buildings in the Southern Humboldt area for many, many years.

They moved to Cave Junction, Ore., in 1989, and over the years have continued to return to Southern Humboldt to visit family and friends.

She was a member of the Illinois Valley Golf Club in Cave Junction, where she was a past president of the Illinois Valley Ladies Golf Club and a past champion. Her hobbies included golfing, bowling, sewing, playing cards, oil painting, reading, traveling, and spending time with her family.

Patti is survived by her husband, Kenny; her sister, Virginia Smith and husband Richard of Pioneer, Calif.; her five sons, Patrick Lewis of Garberville, Tony Lewis of Garberville, Bob Lewis and wife Cindy of Whitethorn, Bret Lewis of Redway, and Bart Lewis and wife Heather of Holmes Flat.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Bridget Chittenden and husband, Travis of Fortuna, Heather Chernoh and husband Dustin of Willits, Tyler Lewis and wife Amber of Garberville, Ashley Lewis of Whitethorn, Kayla Lewis of China Creek, Madison Lewis of Holmes Flat, Kendra Lewis, Tanner Lewis, and Sloane Lewis of Blue Lake; and great-grandchildren, Keith and Kaylie Lewis of Fortuna, Hailey Lewis of Willits, and Wyatt Lewis of China Creek.

She will be greatly missed by her two nephews, Mike Gardner of Garberville and Mark Gardner of Whitethorn and their families; all her friends; and other family members.

She was preceded in death by her son, Keith Lewis in 1995.

The family announced that a celebration of her life will be held in May.
