On June 13 the Summer Music Series continues at the Peg House in Leggett with all profits from ticket sales, after expenses, being donated to the music departments at both Leggett and Southern Humboldt Unified Schools.

This fourth concert in the series will feature Kathi McDonald and Friends. Kathi is a seasoned musician spanning decades as a vocalist who has recorded on over 100 gold records. She started with Ike and Tina Turner in the early years and later filled the slot of Janis Joplin in Big Brother & The Holding Company. Since then she has recorded with such legends as Leon Russell, Long John Baldry, Rolling Stones, Nils Lofgren, Rita Coolidge, Delaney & Bonnie, and Dave Mason… to just name a few. Her backup band is a cast of legends as well with Rich Kirch, Snooky Flowers, Ron Perry, Dave Sobel and Terry Baker.

Brad Jenkins, the founder of this first Summer Music Series to save our school music departments, recently recorded his tenor sax on the title track of Kathi’s latest CD along with Sam Andrew, an original founding member of Big Brother & The Holding Company (also playing the closing show of this series on Sept. 12). The CD is called “On With The Show” and is dedicated to the ongoing fight to end domestic violence. CDs will be available at this performance. Be sure to catch a one-time chance to hear some of the best in action right here in your backyard! Brad might even play a song or two with Kathi. Don’t miss it!

"God knows she’s good," said Sam Andrew, a founder of Big Brother. "For years, I said she was the best white blues singer alive. They can’t really be compared, but, like Janis, she’s a phenomenon. She’s truly a great singer.”

Tickets are on sale at the Peg House at Leggett, Tsunami Surf and Sport, Blue Moon, Blue Star Gas, and Clover Willison Insurance, all in Garberville. Ticket prices are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. To view the whole concert series check out the web site AMouseInYourPocket.com for more information. Food and beverages are available for sale at the Peg House. No outside ice chests are allowed into the concert site. This is a great way to spend a sunny Sunday afternoon and to support our local schools. Showtime for this Summer Music Series is 2 p.m. every Sunday.
