Tom Oliphant, retired Chief Appraiser for the Humboldt County Assessor’s Office has endorsed Jon Brooks for Humboldt County Assessor.

"The Grand Jury Report listed several ongoing problems in the Assessor’s office. A change in direction and leadership is needed at this time. I believe that Jon Brooks has the qualifications and experience to effect those changes. Over 90% of the assessments are real property valuations. Jon’s formal education, his experience as a MAI appraiser and being a business owner makes him the best candidate. Having retired with 35 years in the Assessor’s Office, the last 5 years as Chief Appraiser, I know that Jon Brooks is the best possible choice," Oliphant said.

Jon Brooks is a local business owner and real estate appraiser with over 20 years experience in the property valuation industry. He also holds the distinction of being the only Member of the Appraisal Institute (MAI) in Humboldt County. Brooks currently serves on the County Williamson Act Committee, is on the Board of Directors of the Me’Dil Institute, a nonprofit organization supporting Indigenous nature based cultural practices, and is a Rangemaster at the Long Prairie Gun and Archery Club. He has also served on the Board of Directors of the Humboldt Bay Housing Development Corporation.

The first fundraiser for the campaign will be a concert on April 16 featuring The Merv George Band and appetizers at the Blue Lake Casino Sapphire Palace from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at
