Our thanks for the quick response

To the Editor:

My wife and I would sincerely like to thank Chris Christianson and Frank Wilson of the Shelter Cove Resort Improvement District and the Shelter Cove Volunteer Fire Department for their quick response and timely actions that saved our house on Vergara Court in Shelter Cove. Due to their first reactions of trying to find the source of the smoke they smelled and their quick action of knocking the flames down with the garden hose they saved the house. Their care and professionalism inside the house also kept interior damage to a minimum.

A couple of things worked in our favor, one was that the exterior of the house is stucco and the other was that we had a garden hose pre-connected to a spigot that we always leave there. That is something any homeowner can do and in this case it was a big part of why the house was saved.

Thanks again to all concerned and please support your local volunteers, they do a lot with very little.
