To the Editor:

On April 9 the following local volunteer firelighters completed a 40-hour First Responder class presented by Linda Scales, LVN EMT with James Silva EMT I and Nathan McKnight EMT I from Scotia VFD at the Garberville CAL FIRE station.

These dedicated volunteers attended 10 weeks of advanced first aid and CPR classes. Your community should be as proud of these graduates as I am.

I would like to offer my congratulations to the following volunteers from multiple local volunteer fire departments: Briceland-Beginnings Fire Dept: Diana Totten, Kristina Suarez, Fauna Dillon, Tao Ryce; Alderpoint Vol. Fire Dept: Mike Valk, Tawny Valk, Sandra Kercher, Calvin Kercher, Sterling Kercher, John Earp, Robin Craig; Garberville Vol. Fire Dept: Shannon Stillwell, Joshua Terrell, Alfred Williams Jr.; Palo Verde Vol. Fire Dept: Kelly Worthy; Piercy Vol. Fire Dept: Robert Cowan, Ben Heyda; Telegraph Ridge Vol. Fire Dept: Clay Germano, Leah Radloff, Tanner Speas, Skylar Keith; Weott Vol. Fire Dept: James White; Whitethorn Vol. Fire Dept: Robert Gross, Kent Griggsmiller; and Whale Gulch Vol. Fire Dept: Blu Graham.

And again I would like the thank CAL FIRE for providing us a meeting place, and to Diana Totten for all of her help in setting up this class.

Linda Scales
