Irma Ramos, 39, told the Ventura County Star (http://bit.ly/1e1h6m0) that her sister was sitting under her carport having a cigarette Saturday when the bullet hit her on the side of her neck. Police corroborated Ramos's account. The victim's name has not been released.
Santa Paula police Lt. Ish Cordero says an argument broke out, then a car pulled up and gunfire was exchanged. Cordero said multiple people were involved in the shooting, and police are looking for at least two suspects, but no arrests have been made.
"We're looking for possible suspects—an unknown number, but we know there are more than one," Cordero said.
He would not say whether the shooting involved a gang dispute, but anti-gang police units were among the investigators, and neighbors said the area has seen gang problems, the Star reported.
Ramos says her family has lived on the Santa Paula property, which has several homes, for 40 years, but the city has become increasingly dangerous.
"We don't know who did it or why," Ramos said. "There are bullet holes on the window, and one of them hit my sister. Why? Because this town is unsafe."
