ROSEMEAD, Calif.—Los Angeles County has approved a payment of $1.8 million to settle two lawsuits brought by the family of a schizophrenic woman shot and killed by sheriff's deputies at a mental health clinic two years ago.

The Pasadena Star-News (http://bit.ly/1ePnImi) reports that the Board of Supervisors approved the settlement Tuesday for state wrongful death and federal civil rights lawsuits filed by the family of Jazmyne Ha Eng.

The 40-year-old Eng was shot in January, 2012 in the lobby of the Asian Pacific Family Center in Rosemead, where she was a patient.

Prosecutors declined to file charges against Deputy Brian Vance, who killed Eng, saying he acted in lawful self-defense.

They say Eng was advancing on deputies with a hammer and didn't stop when they shot her with a stun gun.
