VENTURA, Calif.—Ventura County is creating a domestic partnership registration program for same-sex and opposite-sex couples.

The Ventura County Star reports ( the Board of Supervisors this week voted 4-1 to approve the program, which will be run by the County Clerk and Recorder's Office. It will go into effect March 13.

Same-sex and opposite-sex domestic partners 18 and older can register if one registrant works or lives in the county. Registration will cost $30.

Many companies require domestic partners of employees to be registered if they are to receive health insurance benefits.
