MERCED, Calif.—Authorities say one man was killed and two others seriously injured when a fuel tank exploded on a Central Valley ranch.

Merced County Sheriff's Deputy Delray Shelton says the explosion was reported around 3:45 p.m. Wednesday north of Merced. Firefighters extinguished the burning fuel tank.

Additional details about the explosion, including the victim's name, were not known. The Merced Sun-Star reports ( that at least some of the men were ranch workers.

Shelton tells the newspaper the state Division of Occupational Safety and Health is expected to be involved in the investigation.
