Redwood, which won the Cup last year, easily retained it by beating Baywood 14.5 - 3.5. The tournament took place on Nov. 2 and 3.
The event was a two-day tourney where the first day featured six four-ball matches at Baywood followed by individual matches the second day at Redwood. The four-ball format consists of two-person teams where one score of the group counts against one score of the other two-some in match play. Six points were at stake on the first day while twelve points were contested on day two.
Redwood took the four-ball matches five and a half points to one-half point for Baywood. In the singles, Redwood prevailed 9-3.
”This event is called the ‘Nolan Cup’ in memory of the late Don Nolan, who was a long-time member at both Redwood Empire and Baywood,” said Redwood Empire head pro Greg Senestraro. “Nolan was a part of golf in Humboldt County, helping each course whenever he could. This tournament honors him with a format that would make him proud.”
