College of the Redwoods community and business development will be offering four professional development classes to help one get a job and be successful.

All classes will be held at the CR Eureka downtown instructional site, located at 333 6th St.

Introduction to Job Hunting

Introduction to job hunting is a class for students interested in learning how to conduct a successful job search.

This course will provide an overview of how to conduct a successful job search. Students will learn how to categorize their skills and interests, then discover occupations and industries they would qualify for. They will learn how to effectively conduct a job search utilizing the Internet and other resources. They will also learn how to utilize networks and business contacts to find jobs.

The class will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 22 and Thursday, Jan. 24 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Thriving Under Pressure

The thriving under pressure class is for students interested in learning how to identify and understand the impact of stress management.

This course will be a study of the key elements of stress management. Topics will include the recognition of stress, causes of stress and the benefits of stress management. Various stress management techniques will be explored. Students will leave having learned to employ effective and appropriate stress management techniques.

The class will be held on Saturday, Jan. 26 from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and will break for a 30-minute lunch.

Time Management

The time management class is for students interested in making maximum use of their time. Learn techniques for getting things you want done and creating the time to do the things you want to do.

This course will provide an introduction to time management principles and specific tools that assist in making maximum use of time. Emphasis will be placed on how to prioritize one’s time effectively, identify time wasters and how to combat them, and set reachable goals. Students will prepare and analyze a self-diagnosis to determine where one’s time goes. Students will also apply S.M.A.R.T. (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely) principles in a goal-setting exercise.

The time management class will be held on Saturday, Jan. 19 from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with a 30-minute lunch break

Resume, Cover Letter and Interview Tips

The resume, cover letter and interview tip class is for students interested in learning how to create a polished presentation for job submissions.

The class teaches one the answers to tricky interview questions and how to create a powerful cover letter that will get noticed. This course will provide an overview of various resume styles, cover letter components, and tips and tricks for successful job interviews. Students will learn how to prepare chronological, functional and targeted resumes. They will learn how to structure and write a standard cover letter. They will also learn how to answer and handle difficult interview questions.
