Teacher at Leggett Valley School

The Leggett Jr. High would like to thank everyone who helped make our Back to School Night fundraising efforts such a huge success. We would especially like to thank the parents who assisted with the car wash and pizza dinner. They are Holly Savoie, Pamela Braham, Phoebe Becker, Shannon Luna, Shelby Felton, and Ruby Arias.

Ruby Arias is the new school secretary in the front office, but she is not new to Leggett. Last year she was K-1 part-time aid, part-time secretary and part time at the Leggett Post Office. Ruby moved here with her husband and youngest son from Whittier in Southern California five years ago. She had however, been coming here for over 30 years to visit her sister Gracie. When asked what she liked about Leggett after coming from such a huge area, she said she liked everything about Leggett. “I like the people here and the area. I like being able to talk about the bears, deer, and trees in my yard. I love driving the mail to Piercy on Saturday just so I can see the view and all the trees. I even like picking the rocks up off the ground. There are some beautiful rocks here. I feel this is where I should have always been.”

Leggett Valley School has a new student in the 8th grade named Emily Eib. When asked about Leggett Valley School she said, “I love it here. I have made all kinds of new friends. Everyone here is friendly. I like having less students you learn a lot more. It’s more fun here too. I am looking forward to my trip to Yosemite.”

The Leggett Jr. High will also be looking forward to their annual kayaking trip at Lake Mendocino in Ukiah this week. It is part of an aquatics unit for physical education. They would like to thank all the community members who loan their kayaks out each year for this event. It is truly appreciated.
