The maintenance technician scholarship applications are due Sept. 13 at The Job Market. Call The Job Market at 441-5627. The deadline for the office specialist scholarship applications has passed.
In the office specialist course, students will be prepared for receptionist and general office positions. Training will include computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Publisher. Participants will learn and practice professional office skills such as business telephone etiquette, organization, customer service and how to run common office equipment. Local internships may be available to further practice these new skills.
Office specialist training starts Monday, Sept. 17.
In the second program, maintenance technician, participants will learn skills to use every day in local jobs working for small businesses, large businesses and many government or non-profit organizations. Maintenance technicians will receive both classroom training and plenty of hands-on training working on the restoration of the Anne B. Ryan house in Eureka. This practical training will help participants develop skills in light construction, and repairs, as well as how to install small items, basic plumbing and electrical work, efficient painting, earthquake safety, how to understand MSDS sheets. Students will also receive a 10-hour OSHA certification. This class starts Sept. 27. Scholarships for maintenance technician training close on Sept. 13.
Local employer information about job openings now and expected in the near future was used to design a series of trainings such as office technician and maintenance specialist to help people become qualified for the jobs available in Humboldt County.
