Attendees will receive expert help filling out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and be entered automatically into a drawing for several $1,000 scholarships if at least 25 students participate. We have given out close to $10,000 in the past two years through this event!
What to bring:
o Parents’ and students’ estimated 2009 income, W2s, other proof of 2009 income
o Parents’ and students’ Social Security numbers
o Driver’s License
o Bank statements
o Untaxed income records
o Parents’ and Students’ FAFSA PIN numbers (go to fafsa.gov to apply for a PIN)
Don’t worry if you can’t gather all these documents before the event, just beginning the process will enter you in the scholarship drawing.
It might be helpful to go to fafsa.gov and fill out a worksheet beforehand so you know what to expect, but it is not necessary, as will financial aid experts will be on hand to walk you through all the details of the FAFSA and answer all your financial aid questions.
Do NOT go to fafsa.com or any other websites that charge a fee to help you with your FAFSA...Remember, FAFSA stands for FREE Application for Student Aid!
Even if you do not think you will qualify for financial aid you should fill out a FAFSA so that you are entered into the CalGrant program, a merit-based state grant program.
Not sure if you’re going to college? Apply for your FAFSA anyway and help someone win a scholarship - it might be you!
All high school seniors are welcome to attend; it is not necessary that you be a South Fork student.
If you have any questions, please contact Ann at the high school starting January 25 at 943-3144 extension 3105.
