South Fork’s JV boys took a roller coaster ride for their final contest of the season Friday afternoon but ended up falling just short of Ferndale 56-52. The Cubs were up by ten in the third quarter and then down by ten early in the fourth before making it close again just before the game ended.

Sophomore Grant Wick had 26 points, including 4 from behind the arc and was a perfect 4 for 4 from the free throw line to lead the Cubs’ scoring. Sophomore Cole Moody had 11 points with three 3-pointers, sophomore Eli Kahan had 5 points, freshman Kevin Vandenack had 4 and sophomore Cale Lehman had a bucket.

The Cubs wrapped up a successful season with an 11-10 record, and their 1-5 Humboldt del Norte Little Four Conference record does not tell an accurate story of the closely-played contests among a tough slate of local competition. Head coach Doug Moody has consistently emphasized development over wins as key at this level of play.
