Doug graduated from this dimension on the autumnal equinox barely a week after the lovefest held in his honor. We knew in our hearts that he was willing himself to stay alive for this last event, a buoyant celebration that carried him out on the wings of heartfelt community.
Doug spent his life visiting, creating or supporting community in its many magical manifestations. The community that was created surrounding his lovefest certainly experienced that magic. His family will be eternally grateful to our many friends at Heart of the Redwoods Community Hospice that assisted with Dougie’s blessed transition, and to all the beautiful people that came to honor him at the Mateel on his special night.
He was preceded in death by his father, William; his mother, Jean; and his younger brother, Nicholas.
He is survived by his partner, Charity; son Ben (Ruby), and son William, all of Humboldt County; and daughter, Talia Beck and her three children, Kylie, Daniel and Kellen who live in Minnesota. He is also survived by his brother, Steve (Gisa) and their children, Tatiana and Annika from Vermont; and his brother, Phil (Bonnie) and their children, Clinton and Whitney from Illinois. A younger sister, Christina, and her two sons, Finn and Balin, reside in New York.
Family gatherings will be called in the four directions to disperse Doug’s ashes according to his wishes.
