Whites Fire –Air resources were able to support suppression efforts again yesterday until the smoke became too thick later in the afternoon. Clearer skies today will allow continued use of aerial suppression in containment efforts. Structure protection remains in place throughout the fire. The entire south and southwest edges of the fire are in mop up and patrol status. The fire continued to spread last night south of the North Fork in Whites Gulch along Snoozer Ridge as well as in Sawmill Gulch southwest of Tanners Peak. Handline has been completed from Sawyers Bar through the Salmon River Complex burn scar, toward the north edge of the fire. Tactical firing operations were successfully used to strengthen the completed line above Mule Bridge to Snoozer Ridge.
Man Fire –Hand crews continue to be stationed near the fire to reduce daily travel time. Natural barriers and topographic features are being used as part of the efforts to contain the fire. Although the fire is located in wilderness, the goal is to put this fire out completely, using minimum impact suppression tactics (M.I.S.T.) to reduce long term effects on the land.
Northeast winds over the fire will produce clearer skies today pushing smoke toward the coast, with continuing dry conditions. There may be partial smoke and cloud cover over the fire. With normal upslope, up canyon winds, there is no predicted significant increase in fire behavior.
