A man was taken to St. Joseph Hospital for a serious leg injury after being hit by a car Tuesday night, according to the Eureka Police Department.

EPD Police Services Officer Brittany Kesterson said the pedestrian was crossing Broadway Street just south of West Hawthorne at 10:02 p.m. when the driver of a Nissan sedan struck him.

"The pedestrian appeared in front of the vehicle and the driver didn't have enough time to stop," Kesterson said. "The pedestrian's leg injury – which appeared to be a fracture but wasn't confirmed – didn't appear to be life-threatening."

Kesterson said the driver was not arrested because there was no intent to hit the pedestrian and alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this accident.

The investigation is ongoing.
