Unlike other elements in the county General Plan, the Housing Element must be updated every five years, according to California state law. The last Housing Element was originally approved by the board of supervisors in 2009 and then went through a number of revisions following two lawsuits.
State-mandated housing allocations for Humboldt County are lower than they were for the 2009 update in all income categories.
Planning staff held two workshops in Southern Humboldt to gather local input last fall. At those workshops members of the public emphasized the need for solutions for homeless and transient persons.
Members of the public will have an opportunity to address the commission during the public comment portion of the meeting, and may also submit written comments.
