For over two decades now, rain or shine, our local Kiwanis club has held their Toys for Tots Run in early December. That string came to an end a couple weeks back when riders woke up to bone-chilling weather and icy roads. Reluctantly, the club decided to err on the side of safety and reschedule for the following weekend. They sincerely apologize to those brave souls who did not get the word and showed up anyway. It all turned out for the best as the parade, led by Santa Donovan, went off without a hitch in balmy 60-degree temperatures.

Back at the Riverwood Inn on the Avenue of the Giants in Phillipsville club members were busy grilling tri-tip, selling raffle tickets and arraigning a mountain of toys under the tree. During a break in the music by the Jimi Jeff Band, Kiwanis members gathered on stage while past president, Danielle Whitmore, presented Riverwood owner Gary Eliason with a plaque honoring Loreen for her commitment and support to Kiwanis and the community. They all miss Loreen, but as Gary pointed out, her spirit was very much with them.

As always, Kiwanis would not be able to put on this event without the generous support from local merchants. They ask everyone to please patronize them.

They send their heartfelt thanks to their sponsors this year: Brooks Enterprises, Allsport, Blue Star Gas, Four Mori Market, Redwoods Rural Health Center, Daily Grind, Sicilito's, SHCC, Jim's Quality Quick Lube, Just Rent It, Eel River Cafe, "In Memory of Kevin Kaufman," Riverwood Inn, Roberto's Humboldt T's, SHHCD, Don's Towing, Dragon Heart Tang Soo Do, Gross Prophets, Humboldt Performance Cycles, Redwood Garden Supply, Wyckoff's Plumbing, South County Automotive, Branding Iron Saloon, Redwood Harley-Davidson, People's Real Estate, The Cutting's and Futrell Firearms, Kemp's Auto Repair, Brown's Sporting Goods, Mateel Community Center, Mattole River Studios, Raisin Surfboards, Redway Feed, Redway Liquor, JPCH, Redway Tire, Deerhorn Market, Scott Greenleaf, JK Hay Sales, Southern Humboldt Builders Service and Ace Hardware, Redway True Value Hardware, Branscomb Center and Radio Shack, Community Credit Union of Southern Humboldt, Karen Miclette Insurance, KMUD, Maiden Humboldt, Milt's Saw Shop, Napa Auto Parts, North Valley Bank, Singing Trees Recovery Center, Subway, Boot Leg, Cadillac Wok, Music for Little People, Dazey's and Parkinson's Building Materials.
