A house located behind Ray’s Food Place on Locust Street in Garberville was the site of a fire on Friday afternoon, June 20. People in the area had noticed a burning smell more than a day prior to the fire but could not determine the location. According to firefighters, the fire most likely began in the back one-third of the house in the attic. When the firefighters arrived the ceiling had to be removed to gain access to the flames. The inside of the house was a total loss, however the structure itself was saved. Resident Ruben Mood was at work when the fire broke out. Two engines responded from the Garberville Volunteer Fire Department and CAL FIRE, along with one from the Redway Volunteer Fire Department.
