A 20-year-old Laytonville man sustained major injuries when he failed to negotiate a turn on State Route 162 in Mendocino County.
According to the CHP, the accident occurred on Sunday, June 15. Daniel Morrison was driving his full size Ford 4x4 pickup westbound at approximately 40 mph when he failed to negotiate a right hand curve in the road. The vehicle left the road edge, going airborn, and rolled approximately 300 feet to the bottom of the hillside where it came to rest on its roof.
Morrison apparently left the scene of the accident and was seen walking along the side of the road, bleeding heavily and in obvious pain. The CHP responded and were assisted at the scene by the Covelo Volunteer Fire Department. The Cal Fire helicopter, Reach Air Ambulance out of Redding and the Cal-Star Four helicopter were all dispatched to the scene.
Morrison told his rescuers that were two other people trapped in the overturned vehicle but no other victims were found in the heavily damaged vehicle or on the steep hillside where the accident occurred.
Morrison was transported to a hospital by the Cal-Star helicopter with major injuries. He is facing unspecified charges, according to the report.
