Several suspects seen fleeing an arson fire at Covelo High School were arrested following investigation of the event by the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the report, the Covelo Fire Department was summoned to the high school on Friday, June 13, at 2 a.m. On arrival they found the Snack Shack and band room fully engulfed in flames. The Snack Shack was totally destroyed and the band room badly damaged.
Witnesses identified several suspects running from the scene shortly after the fire started. Investigation revealed that five people, three adults and two juveniles, were seen drinking near the Snack Shack and pool area. They began to vandalize the Snack Shack and lit items on fire inside the structure.
Charges of arson are being filed against the three adult suspects, who are listed as Raymond Campos, Janet Faye Azbill, and Mario Albert Rodriguez. Charges are also being brought against two male juveniles.
According to Covelo School officials, the loss is valued at around $800,000.
