Enough is enough.
Ed Voice’s Oct 8th letter to the editor is only the latest in a very long string of misguided and spurious accusations impugning the intent and integrity of the Southern Humboldt Community Park board. In this case Ed accuses the SHCP board of costing Garberville Sanitary District ratepayers $40,000 in an effort to justify the inclusion of the park among GSD clients. In point of fact the park has been a rate-paying customer of the GSD since the formation of the GSD and a customer of the Garberville water system before that. The costs Ed refers to have actually accrued to the GSD due to the efforts of a few individuals to justify the exclusion of the park from access to the district’s services to satisfy their own self-interested agendas.
Ed’s most recent attempt to intimidate the GSD into reneging on its agreements with the Community Park was to threaten the GSD with a lawsuit. Despite the fact that the lawsuit may be baseless, the potential cost of defending itself against such a suit requires the GSD board to consider the possible fiscal impact of defending itself regardless of the veracity of the accusations. It is doubtful Ed could actually prevail in court. Rather his intent is to intimidate and silence supporters of the park’s continued access to GSD services into submission to his own personal priorities.
But, that’s not even why I’m writing this letter. Despite the misinformed criticisms and misguided actions of a disgruntled few
Nevertheless the board’s positive efforts have been hampered by the cost in time and money required to ensure that all park supporters and funders are aware of the spurious nature of the accusations. Ed Voice has made little or no effort to actually make a positive contribution to the Community Park or any other community effort in the Southern Humboldt region. It’s time for Ed to stop undermining this exemplary collaborative effort to build a balanced and sustainable future for this important community asset.
