The military court martial of Bradley Manning has, at long last, begun running its inevitable course. Manning is an American hero who ought to be embraced and admired by anyone who clings to the belief that a nation that periodically asserts that it is a democracy founded on principles of freedom and abhorrence of tyranny ought to actually live up to those standards.
What this so called trial will prove beyond a shadow of doubt is not whether or not Manning is guilty of treason but, rather, that what we live under here in the United States more closely resembles a fascist military dictatorship that cannot endure without secrecy.
The real treason is committed by all those who wish to perpetuate the myth that secrecy is vital to what is called national security. Congress has never really exercised its constitutional mandate to prevent the executive branch from excluding citizens and taxpayers in the decisions to commit those same citizens and taxpayers to idiotic, imperialist wars on behalf of Wall Street. Now we are at the point where organized resistance in our neighborhoods could bring about a drone strike on Americans by Americans.
Whistle blowers who act in good conscience to alert their fellow citizens of wrongdoings are not the enemy. They are the brave ones. Good on you, Bradley Manning.
