To the Editor:

I could not believe the letter to the editor by Mark Carey. I am Wailaki Indian and I have liveD here for 50 years. I have drank and played in these rivers and creeks. I am so grateful for John Casali for trying to care for them. We ate the fish and eels out of these waters and my heart is so hurt that anyone can put him down for doing such a good job trying to make the waters a better place for our children.

One of the natural laws is that you have got to keep things pure, especially the water.

Keeping the waters pure is one of the first laws of life.

If you destroy the water you destroy the life.

I know grandmother Agness. I have felt the 13 grandmothers’ power. Healing the rivers, the streams, the creeks, the water, they are blessed. For if we have not the water, we have nothing.

No spirit, no life.

From grandmother Agness I learned we have our part in life to do. Be as one, work as one. My heart is troubled by this: how in the life we live in can anyone try to destroy what one man (John) has done?

I will always honor John as one of my people.

One who shows courage.

One who shows strength above and beyond.
