To the Editor:

I want to thank all the friends of Nurtchia and Sam who were able to give money to allow Nurchia to stay at Archer’s Assisted Living in Miranda. We were able to keep her there for a year ... and it was a good year for her.

The Jerold Phelps Skilled Nursing Facility still has Nurtchia at the top of the list, but it looks like it could be a long time before there is much change.

I have run out of ways of keeping the money coming in and feel now it’s time to move to the next choice. The public guardian is working with me to find her a skilled nursing spot, probably in Fortuna or Eureka. This will happen by the end of October when her money will be gone.

Nurtchia is still able to be happy in the moment, especially if someone will sing with her. I think she might be able to connect with new people as easily as she always has and so will be able to enjoy her new space.

I, personally, am saddened by the changes ahead, but know there could be a positive outcome for her.

Sam is continuing to do well in his assisted living home in Crescent City.
