On Saturday, July 14, Sheriff Mike Downey attended the Rural American Sheriffs event in Crescent City. This event was hosted by Del Norte County Sheriff Dean Wilson.
When it came his time to speak Sheriff Mike Downey bravely stepped forward and announced, “The United States is not a democracy, it is a Constitutional Republic.”
It was a pleasure to see Sheriff Mike Downey at this constitutional sheriff’s event. The sheriffs of Siskiyou, Modoc, Tehama and Mendocino counties stood united in their commitment to their oath of office.
Modoc County Sheriff Mike Poindexter stated he had taken the oath of office several times and never really thought about what it meant. He promised to recommit himself to his oath of office to support and defend the U.S. and state constitutions.
Many Americans falsely believe that our form of government is a democracy. Many Americans falsely believe that democracies are the best forms of government, one that protects their freedoms.
Our true and actual form of government is a republic. Simply look at the state flag, it reads “California Republic.” Remember our pledge of allegiance to the American flag in which we all recite, “and to the republic for which it stands.”
We the people must help Sheriff Mike Downey and our board of supervisors protect our constitutional rule of law. Contact them and find our what you can do to help.
