I wish to thank all who supported my campaign for Congress this past year. I couldn’t have done this without the volunteers, supporters and overall team efforts of amazing individuals in the district. Our message of Healthy Planet and Healthy Communities resonated with many of you. I particularly enjoyed deepening my relationship with the people of Humboldt County.
While it was unfortunate that there was such a low voter turnout for this important race (24%), it was gratifying to see that money alone couldn’t buy an election. With an important presidential election coming up, we need to find a way to better engage the voters in this important civic duty. As a Marin County supervisor, I am committed to continuing our work together on the important issues in this district and look forward to my ongoing connections with the Humboldt County supervisors on clean energy, watershed restoration, therapeutic justice and health care for all including the care of our vets.
We may have different approaches in how to achieve our goals but we need to engage in civil discourse with a willingness to solve the difficult problems we face. I believe the people of Humboldt are up to the task.
I also wish to acknowledge the other 11 candidates who participated in this race. It is no easy endeavor to run for Congress in a district that stretches from the Golden Gate Bridge to the Oregon border and into Trinity County. Each candidate brought a unique perspective to the discourse, which is important to the democratic process.
Again, my heartfelt thanks to all for an exciting year.
Marin County Supervisor
