The Healy Center is delighted to announce that we have received a three-year development grant to expand our services to the community. The money awarded by the Vitamin Cases Settlement Fund will be used to make it possible for people (including disabled non-seniors) to get frozen meals, which will be designed to meet their nutritional needs. The first six months is being devoted to program preparation, including developing appropriate menus and acquiring the necessary equipment. We hope to be ready to start distributing meals throughout our service area at the end of this initial period. Meals will be available weekly and will have to be picked up at the center. The recipients will be responsible for safe transportation to their homes.

The Center applied for this grant recognizing an unfilled need in this community: The availability of meals for people who are not necessarily seniors, but need food delivered to them because they are disabled or otherwise unable to cook or shop for themselves. Since the meals will be frozen, the participants will be able to pick them up once per week. This also means that folks in the outlying areas of our service area, who are not currently served by our Meals on Wheels,

might be able to participate if they are willing to come into Redway weekly, or if they are able to send someone in to pick up the meals.

The goal is to establish a permanent program that will continue after the grant runs out. If you know of someone who could benefit from this service, please let them know that we will be ready to serve by October of this year.
