On Monday morning, April 7, the 703 Cedar Street apartments (Cedar Street Senior Apartments - phase 2) had a REAC inspection as required and arranged by HUD. This inspection looks at the facility and determines whether everything that is supposed to be in place is there and working and evaluates a long checklist of items for safety. In September 2007, CSSA - phase 1 had its REAC inspection. The inspector found about 6 GFI electrical outlets that didn’t reset as they should. The inspection rated our complex as satisfactory because so many needed replacement. Fortunately there were no major health and safety violations.

At this inspection, there were no findings at all - everything was perfect! This rating is largely due to the diligent maintenance provided by Bob Costanzo and the attention to detail that the residents provided in notifying us of anything that needed repair. (Not that there is much - but the inspector would notice if there was a tiny crack on a light switch cover plate.) It was helpful to know what specific concerns the inspectors have raised in other facilities and we are grateful to the residents who took the rules seriously. HUD is very concerned about clear access to doors and

windows for fire escape; they tested every single smoke detector; they made sure every door and window opens, closes and latches for security, etc. We can be very proud of the perfect score given after this inspection.

Now we need your help to complete a major work project that we would like to do in the next couple of weeks. During construction, the grand old oak tree had a lot of dirt moved around its roots and a lot of extra dirt was compacted and left where it could suffocate the tiny roots. We are looking for a crew of strong people to carefully remove the dirt from around the oak tree so we can restore the soil it to its natural level. There are also some smaller gardening jobs that would be fun for small groups to take on. If you could help, please call Patti at 923-1035 or send an e-mail to prose@asis.com.
