As part of a consortium of 10 United Way organizations from around California, the Humboldt-Del Norte Region of United Way of the Wine Country will receive one of Covered California’s first outreach and education grants for 2013-14 through a $1 million state grant awarded to United Way of California.
This new Covered CA grant funding will provide for a halftime outreach and education specialist for Humboldt County from July 2013 through December 2014. This person will engage in one-on-one communications and group presentations with residents/groups of Humboldt County members explaining the concepts of insurance co-pays and premiums and the different options people have in securing insurance coverage. This outreach will focus on reaching people who have never had health insurance, who don’t speak English very well, had health insurance coverage when they lost their jobs, or work at jobs that don’t provide insurance.
United Way staff will receive training and certification on the Covered California program before starting outreach efforts this fall.
Two other local agencies awarded Covered California grants for outreach and education are Catholic Charities and Rural
Covered California’s mission to increase the number of Californians with health insurance, improve the quality of health care, reduce health care coverage costs and ensure California’s diverse population has fair and equal access to quality health coverage.
