The mission of the North Coast Stand Down is to organize and coordinate a three-day event that provides services and aid in one location to veterans and their families of our North Coast counties. The goals are to provide a safe environment for veterans to find support and camaraderie while bringing awareness to the community of the issues and barriers veterans face daily.
This year they are in need of committed people to help coordinate the event. If you care about veterans and want to help, they need you now. Please go to the web site www.northcoaststanddown.org to find out how.
Coordinator meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month at the Arcata Vets Hall at 6 p.m. located at 14th and J in Arcata. The next coordinator meeting is scheduled for June 5.
Some of the key coordinator positions that are currently vacant are offsite coordinator, onsite coordinator, public affairs coordinator, recycling and trash coordinator, volunteer coordinator, program services coordinator, photography coordinator. These are positions that will manage volunteers and are critically needed for a successful Stand Down.
