Suspect in Briceland shooting arrested


A man suspected of being involved in a shooting and robbery in the area of China Creek Road on Aug. 6 was arrested around 1 p.m. Eastern Time on Wednesday by Greenville-Spartenburg International Airport police in South Carolina, according to a news release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for LeMarcus Raekown Martin, 21, on suspicion of robbery and conspiracy following statements from multiple witnesses. Martin is being held without bail in South Carolina, awaiting extradition to the Humboldt County jail, where his bail will be set at $500,000.

The shooting victim received near-fatal injuries and was flown to an out-of-area hospital for treatment. The victim is still in serious condition, but is expected to survive. The incident remains under investigation.

The Aug. 6 shooting occurred when the victim was attempting to negotiate a marijuana transaction. At the time, a news release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office released descriptions of three black male suspects and a sid-size SUV that was possibly involved in a crash with the victim.
