SoHum Chamber finds new director
There is a new executive director in place at the Southern Humboldt Chamber of Commerce.
Jenny Early was named the new executive director following a brief search to fill the role.
“We are confident that Jenny will bring a new, fresh look to our local business community,” the chamber said in a statement. ”She is enthusiastic about meeting each business owner in person and helping the local economy flourish with new local events and ideas to increase local business.”
Cannabis chamber mixer set for Aug. 10
The August mixer of the Humboldt Cannabis Chamber of Commerce will be at Persimmons Garden Gallery in Redway on Aug. 10 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. This month’s host is Wonderland Nursery. This mixer will feature words from Kevin Jodrey of Wonderland Nursery, live music by Savannah Rose Band and snacks provided by Sweet Basil Catering. An assortment of beer, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages will also be provided. Attendees are encouraged to bring business cards. Raffle tickets will be sold for a chance to win prizes. Spiritual leader to visit from Nepal
Every summer Rangjung Yeshe Gomde, Tibetan Buddhist retreat center in Leggett, celebrates the annual visit of its spiritual head Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche, who comes from Kathmandu, Nepal. This year Rinpoche and Lama Tsultrim Sangpo will lead three programs from Aug. 10-18. The first, “Gateway to Buddhist Practice,” will present the wisdom of the Buddha’s teachings in a way that is accessible and applicable for all modern practitioners. On Aug. 13, Rinpoche will lead the “Ocean of Amrita Puja,” a full-day group ritual for purification. The third program, “Directly Meeting Your Buddha Nature,” is for advanced practitioners and will provide guidance on how to avoid pitfalls in meditation practice and how to apply meditation practice in daily life. Middle Eastern dance party Aug. 12
Rockin’ Rubies Belly Dance will host “Hafla: A Middle Eastern Dance Party” on Aug. 12 at Beginnings in Briceland.
Performers from Southern Humboldt County will provide an evening of belly dancing to music from Persia to Morocco.
Food will be served by South Fork High School students to raise funds for the Presbyterian church fire restoration and for the performing arts program at the high school.
