Sanctuary Forest has hike for kids

On July 15, Sanctuary Forest is hosting “From the Forest to the River: A Hike for Kids.” The easy his is an opportunity for young children and their families to learn from Eric and Victoria Shafer and Reta Willmore about native plants, aquatic animals, and the restoration and conservation work being done to improve the river habitat. The hike will include a tour of Whitethorn School’s tank system, exploration of the riparian forest and some majestic old-growth redwoods, and play time in the Mattole River. Activities will include plant identification, the capture, identification and release of macro-aquatic invertebrates and salmon artwork.

Meet at Whitethorn Elementary School on Briceland-Thorn Road at 10 a.m. The hike will conclude at 1 p.m.

Bring a lunch and water, and dress for the forest and the river. Also please bring a parent. RSVPs are suggested but not required.
