Fire Status

Man Fire: Minimal fire behavior was observed overnight although relative humidity recovery was poor. Yesterday crews continued to install water tanks, pumps and hoses on the northern edge of the fire. Contingency lines on the northwest and northeast corners of the fire to protect the Pacific Coast Trail were completed. Helicopters were utilized to keep the east and west sides of the fire in check. Klamath National Forest personnel are directing crews to maintain full-suppression efforts, including use of Minimum Impact Suppression Tactics — utilizing geographic features and natural barriers to reduce impacts to the wilderness values.

Whites Fire: Yesterday, air resources worked a more difficult area of the fire above Lower Russian Lake. The identified heat is now interior to the line and therefore less of a threat. Crews continue to work adjacent to sawyers Bar Road removing hazard trees, rocks and rollout debris. Resource advisors are working with fire crews to identify and repair areas affected by fireline construction activities and any areas requiring construction of erosion control measures. This work is approximately 60 percent completed.

Log Fire: The fire will continue to be monitored for any remaining interior visible smoke.

Fire Weather/Behavior: A RED FLAG WARNING will remain in effect until 11 p.m. tonight. Today, southwest winds will dominate the ridges 7-12 mph with gusts of 20 mph. Weather will be mostly sunny with widespread smoke. Temperatures are predicted to range from 85-89 degrees, with humidity at 10-15 percent.

Emergency Forest Closures: A number of Emergency Forest Closure Orders have been implemented for public and fire fighter safety. For details see http://www.fs.usda.gov/alerts/klamath/alerts-notices
