Veterans groups to assemble on H Street in honor of soldier killed in Afghanistan

The body of Eureka native and U.S. Army Sgt. Christopher Mulalley, who died in Afghanistan last month, is expected to arrive in Eureka this evening, according to a Humboldt County Department of Health and Human Services release.

Local veterans groups are planning to line up on H Street and have invited members of community to join them, according to the department release.

Mulalley's remains are expected to arrive at Pierce Mortuary at 6 p.m., according to the release.

Mulalley, 26, died on Aug. 22 in Gardez, Afghanistan. The U.S. Department of Defense is investigating Mulalley's death, but has not released any details other than stating that it was a non-combat related incident. The county Board of Supervisors, city of Eureka, and Gov. Jerry Brown honored Mulalley and his family by lowering city, county and state Capitol flags to half-staff last month.

Pierce Mortuary is located at 707 H St., in Eureka.
