60 arrests made since Aug. 15 in DUI crackdown

The following is a press release issued by the Fortuna Police Department:

The Summer/Labor Day National Anti-DUI crackdown is out in force on the final night of the 18-day enforcement effort. DUI arrests by officers locally on routine traffic enforcement and by special 'Avoid the 8 DUI deployments overnight in Humboldt County is making an impact.

From 12:01 a.m. Friday Aug. 15 through midnight Sunday Aug. 31 officers representing 8 county law enforcement agencies have arrested 60 individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. In 2013, 71 DUI arrests occurred during the same 17 day time period.

(**NOTE: These numbers are only provisional with some agencies yet to report**)

For this last night of the Labor Day Holiday weekend, extra DUI Saturation Patrols will be deployed across the county and all regularly scheduled traffic and patrol officers will focus efforts at stopping and arresting DUI drivers during their normal shifts. The CHP will be deploying all available officers onto freeways and county roads during their Maximum Enforcement Period until midnight tonight.

DUI arrest data collection will continue through Labor Day midnight Monday, Sep. 1.
