Fortuna Police: 24 arrested so far in DUI campaign

Press release from the Fortuna Police Department:

The National Summer/Labor Day Anti-DUI crackdown arrest update: From 12:01 a.m. Friday August 15, 2014 through Midnight Wednesday August 20, 2014 officers representing 8 county law enforcement agencies have arrested 24 individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. In 2013 22 DUI arrests occurred during the same six (6) day time period.

For the second weekend of the National DUI Mobilization a DUI Checkpoint will be conducted on Saturday night. Additionally, extra DUI Saturation Patrols will be deployed across the county and all regularly scheduled traffic and patrol officers will continue efforts to stop and arrest DUI drivers during their normal shifts.

Police and the CHP are requesting motorists to help make your community safer: Report Drunk Drivers – Call 911. Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

DUI arrest data collection will continue through Labor Day midnight Monday, September 1, 2014. Avoid DUI programs, named for the number of police agencies in each county, will deploy Multiple/DUI Driver's License Checkpoints, Multi Agency DUI Task Force operations and local Roving DUI patrols region-wide during this 18 day Summer/Labor Day Campaign.
