Press release issued by the U.S. Forest Service:
The Slide Fire, on the Orleans Ranger District of the Six Rivers National Forest, is at four (4) acres as of noon today. This lightning-caused fire, burning four to five miles southeast of Orleans, was reported by Red Mountain lookout early this morning.
The fire is burning in heavy timber in the Boise Creek drainage area. Due to the high potential for this fire to grow, aerial resources are being used prior to crews reaching the fire to "box" it in and keep it from spreading.
The following resources are either on-site or have been ordered:
Air attack/lead plane: 1
Air tankers: 4
Due to the fire's inaccessible location, no engines or water tenders have been ordered.
