Crab Park fight results in head injuries

On the evening of Wednesday, Aug. 6, the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call regarding a large fight involving several male and female adults, some armed with sticks, occurring at Crab Park, Loleta, according to a press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office. The caller reported that at least one of the involved combatants was bleeding from a head wound and was unresponsive. Humboldt County Sheriff's Deputies and medical personnel responded to the scene.

When the first deputy arrived, she saw a 60-year-old man bleeding from a head wound. He told the deputy the other combatants had fled in a vehicle and were en route to a local hospital for treatment for a head wound.

The deputy learned from witnesses that the man who had remained at the scene had gotten into an argument with a 22-year-old man about garbage on the ground near the younger man's vehicle. Words were exchanged and a fight broke out. During the fight the younger man sustained a head wound after the older man threw him to the ground. The older man was attacked by two adult females who were passengers in the younger man's vehicle. He suffered head injuries as a result of being struck in the head numerous times with a stick.

The 22-year-old man was sent from the local hospital by air to another hospital due to the nature of his head trauma, the Sheriff's press release said.

The 60-year-old man was treated for his head injuries at a local hospital and released. It was determined that alcoholic beverages were consumed by at least some of the combatants. The investigation into who was the primary aggressor is still ongoing, and the case will ultimately be submitted to the Humboldt County district attorney's office for their review. There have no arrests at this time.
