The Humboldt County Sheriff's Office reminds the public to lock their vehicles and not to store valuables in vehicles. Deputies have recently experienced a rise in reported thefts from unlocked vehicles throughout the county. Victims have left wallets, compact discs, stereo equipment and banks cards in unlocked vehicles which have been stolen.
The Sheriff's Office said not to leave garage door openers in vehicles because thieves use garage door openers to enter victims' homes.
If you do need to leave a valuable item in a vehicle, lock the vehicle, and do not leave items in plain sight.
