Eureka resident Kim Bergel announced her candidacy for the 3rd Ward of City Council at noon today in front of Eureka City Hall. If elected on Nov. 4, she plans to focus on improving transportation safety in the city; advocating for "proactive enforcement" of city laws; requiring "panhandlers and operators of sober living houses to have business licenses"; enabling niche manufacturing; improving quality of life to attract businesses; and more.
"I love our city and believe in its tremendous potential," she wrote in her campaign materials. "I am confident my energy, enthusiasm and independent point of view will benefit Eureka. We need new representation and leadership to rejuvenate our neighborhoods and make them safe and healthy. I believe we can refresh the sense of close-knit community that I remember growing up here."
