The Humboldt County Sheriff's Office is currently on the lookout for a suspect in the July 18 homicide at Alderpoint.

Lt. Wayne Hanson said Matthew Aaron Brown, 30, who has a driver's license from Ridgecrest, was identified as a suspect on Saturday after detectives located and talked to a witness. Hanson said Brown is 5 feet and 11 inches and 200 pounds with shaved blond hair and blue eyes. A victim was shot in the Southern Humboldt area on Friday night and died in a helicopter while being taken to the hospital, according to a press release from the office sent out on Saturday.

"The argument between the victim and suspect on the 2000 block of Rancho Sequoia Drive was over personal property and there was one witness," Hanson said. "The suspect is considered armed and dangerous."

Hanson said this is the third homicide to happen in the last 24 months in the Rancho Sequoia Drive area. He said they were all unrelated to one another.

The Humboldt County Sheriff's Office encourages anyone with information regarding the incident to call them at 445-7251 or the office's crime tip line at 268-2539.
