EPD: Transient arrested on suspicion of attempting to shoplift over $1,000 worth of goods from Walmart

A transient from West Virginia was arrested Tuesday afternoon on suspicion of attempting to shoplift over $1,000 worth of camping gear and food from Walmart, according to Eureka Police Department's Police Services Officer Brittany Kesterson.

"We got a call at 3:15 p.m. that Walmart staff detained a shoplifter. The suspect gave officers the name Boyd Stacey, but once booked in the jail, staff were able to determine his name is actually Michael Hunsinger and he's out of West Virginia," Kesterson said.

Kesterson said Hunsinger, 25, was arrested by Eureka Police Department officers on suspicion of burglary, he didn't have any money on him and he admitted to being under the influence of methamphetamine. He was booked into the Humboldt County jail and his bail is $50,000.
